The 2005 Vintage in Mildura Victoria (GI:
Murray Darling- Vic), has been idealic, the weather has been great,
supplying great ripening conditions for the grapes this year, with
a very mild summer, and few hot days, don't get me wrong we still
had them! Initially it looked like it was going to be a late start
to vintage however ripening picked up and most wineries had an early start!
Again Farrell Estate Wines was able to hand
pick its fruit, therefore selecting only the best quality fruit for
the wines that make it to your family's table.
First crush was early
March, with our Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz/Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot
ferments kicking off our vintage. These were followed by another Cabernet
Sauvignon/Merlot in March and a Cabernet Sauvignon in April
and finally our White Cabernet on the 15th April.
Farrell Estate Wines total production was
up on 2004; with 3.4 tonnes being processed.
As I type this the nights are cooling down
quite dramatically to 7 degrees Celcius or below, however our days
are quite mild with today being 27 degrees Celcius.
Our White Cabernet is the only finished
wine at this time, as this is a 2005 pre-release trial, there will
not be commercial quantities available. However, we will be producing
commercial quantites in 2006 - I just had to show the rest of the
family here at Farrell Esate Wines that it could be done and produce
a great wine - and they were all very impressed! The rest of the wines
are happily going through secondary fermentation (malolactic) so
hopefully this will be all finished soon.
Looking at the wine yesterday, the quality
is superb and the colour is divine - this vintage is definately going
to run out the door. So be quick as with only 3.4 tonnes produced,
and a wonderful family that love a wine or two, bottle stock is limited!
